Lately in society, there have been more and more people who have become homeless or what seems to me around the city of Ottawa and in Taiwan. It saddens me about how people treat others because they are unfortunate, they are also people as well. You don’t know what they have gone through so why would you treat them so horribly? Would you want to be treated like that if you become homeless? There was a video that I had watched and it was about homeless people reading mean tweets about homelessness. It broke my heart to see how people treat others and I just can’t withstand that at all. What if they were your friends or family? Would you say those things about them? Would you stand up for them? Would you help them out as much as you can?
Here is the video that I was talking about, homeless people reading mean tweet:
Here is a video that my friends and I decided to create:
Have you ever felt like you were lost or confused? I most definitely have and I’m currently at that point where I’m not only lost but also confused about some things. It may be the winter talking even though it is gorgeous and beautiful out, but it just feels like I don’t know where to begin anymore so I then become lost and confused. Don’t get me wrong I love the warm sunny weather that just brightens up the day and brings a smile. Even with the nice weather, you also can’t help but feel like you’re lost. I don’t even know if it’s making sense at all or if I’m explaining it correctly.
About 2 weeks ago, I had a friend who came to visit, it was fun and enjoyed our time hanging out, kept me occupied and didn’t have to think about reality for a bit and then once my friend had left, it all of a sudden hit me that it’s officially spring and there are lots of decisions to make and things to do. But my real feeling is where do I even begin on the decision making and what should I do first. Do I start from the hardest or do I work my way up. What are some of the things I can tackle and some that would need more time to tackle.
What are some of the things that help someone get unconfused and get found/un-lost from the state that they’re in?
Decisions is not an easy task to make sometimes even when you are very sure of yourself and you know what you want. But when it comes down to certain things that may or may not be out of your reach, it becomes harder. For example, moving…where to move, where to stay, what to pack up, what to leave, etc.
I think the easiest way to deal with certain things is to do a pro’s and con’s list, a to-do list and check them off as you get each task done, occupy your mind to escape certain emotions, and talk to your friends and family see what they recommend.
I do apologize if this may seem way off topic from my normal blogging posts but I just thought I had to share about some of what goes through my mind at times through the thick and thins in life.
Cheers everyone! Enjoy the gorgeous spring while it lasts!
It’s time for quote of the month. I know a lot of people have the “perfection” type of spirit and personality since I am one of those people. I pay super close attention to detail and since I, myself, am not perfect, I do tend to miss that odd tiny thing out every once in awhile no matter what it is. Therefore, this month I chose this quote…
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.
No one is perfect but we can always chase perfection the best we can to excel even further, pushing our limits. It is not easy and everyone knows that but it is kind of like a long term goal. For example, on a photoshoot, you would want to make sure that the make up, hair, clothes, etc. are all perfect so then you would have less retouching/post work to do. Another example, in design, no matter what type of design work, you would want to show your work in the most excellent presentation for your clients and the final product to be perfect so there are no mistakes whatsoever, the spelling is correct, the leading, the kerning, the position of things, etc is all in the right placement.
I know I was ranting on a bit about perfection and all that jazz. It really is not an attainable goal but you can almost get close to achieving near perfection. If perfection actually existed then there would be no room for further improvement and mistakes would not be made. The world is not perfect so it needs room for improvement.
Lately I, myself, have been finding it difficult to think that I’m worth every penny that a client spends. It’s not easy especially when freelancing and trying to get the income that you need to survive. I am writing this post because I was not only inspired by a blog post on creativelive, http://blog.creativelive.com/how-to-set-rates-that-work/, but also because there are a lot of freelancers out there who also do this.
There’s one thing that everyone needs to know is that your personal value/worth is completely different from fees/services that you are providing to your clients. They have nothing to do with each other. You have to think of it as the services that you provide to your client has to do with what you do for them and what they can get out of what you do. It’s the value of the service/fees that make it valuable not about yourself.
Figuring out how much to charge is difficult and I have done plenty of research about what to price or the ranges to price within that make you believe that your services are worth that price. Therefore, you must separate your worth from pricing.
Additionally, money is not an easy subject to talk about with a client especially if you’re more of a creative person, like myself, and less of a business/marketing type of person. To me, money is not only a touchy subject but just not easy to discuss and it can be very stressful. Sometimes when you have discussed so much with a client and you still don’t get the client, you feel slightly horrible because you worked so hard to get to a negotiating point. Or, you don’t even get the opportunity to have a negotiating point but hey, don’t feel down, everything happens for a reason.
Another reason which is also quite a big factor of charging too little is that sometimes you lose the sight that you are the expert in that area and the client ends up leading the situation rather than yourself. You have to let them know that they are in good hands so you have to lead the conversation and not let the client do that. The client is coming to you for your services and they want your services. So in a way, you have to assure them that they are in good hands and that you are worth every penny that they spend on your services.
In the end, be confident, keep your head up, know you’re services are worth every penny, and understand what you’re offering to the clients.
I hope you enjoyed my post and have an awesome day and the rest of the week!
I hope everyone is enjoying their day and a fresh start to a new year. In the Asian culture, our new year doesn’t start until after the Chinese New Year. So either way, this is one of my resolutions for both the Chinese New Year and the Western New Year. The resolution is to start blogging and I’m not very good at blogging or know what to say most of the time. Sometimes my blogs won’t have any words and just images to show what I have been up to lately.
This blog will consists of graphic design, photography, recent photoshoots, behind the scenes, tips and tricks, and last but not least ideas and inspirations.
Stay in touch for the next blog post about where I find my inspirations and ideas from.
Bye for now!
